Bristol, au Qu\u00e9bec, trouve ses origines au d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 1800, lorsque des colons venus d’\u00c9cosse et d’Irlande sont remont\u00e9s la rivi\u00e8re des Outaouais pour d\u00e9fricher la terre et \u00e9tablir des fermes. Le canton a \u00e9t\u00e9 officiellement arpent\u00e9 en 1792 et nomm\u00e9 en l’honneur de Bristol, en Angleterre. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 ses terres fertiles et \u00e0 son acc\u00e8s \u00e0 la rivi\u00e8re, l\u2019agriculture et la foresterie y ont prosp\u00e9r\u00e9, devenant les piliers de l\u2019\u00e9conomie locale pendant plusieurs g\u00e9n\u00e9rations.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Au milieu du XIXe si\u00e8cle, de petits hameaux comme Norway Bay et le village de Bristol ont commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 prendre forme. La rivi\u00e8re jouait un r\u00f4le essentiel, autant pour le transport et le commerce que pour les loisirs. La r\u00e9gion est vite devenue une destination estivale pris\u00e9e, et de nombreux chalets bordent encore les rives aujourd\u2019hui. L\u2019extraction du fer a \u00e9galement marqu\u00e9 le territoire, avec l\u2019une des premi\u00e8res usines de boulettes de fer du Qu\u00e9bec en activit\u00e9 \u00e0 Bristol jusqu\u2019aux ann\u00e9es 1970.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Aujourd\u2019hui, Bristol est un m\u00e9lange de fermes en activit\u00e9, de chalets saisonniers et de quartiers r\u00e9sidentiels paisibles. Ses paysages agricoles, ses for\u00eats et son acc\u00e8s \u00e0 la rivi\u00e8re attirent ceux en qu\u00eate d\u2019histoire et de tranquillit\u00e9.
